The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi elevates the healthcare sector’s cybersecurity through "Abu Dhabi Healthcare CERT Team"
12 Jan, 2020: The Department of Health - Abu Dhabi (DoH), the regulator of the healthcare sector in the Emirate, has been authorised by Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute – USA, to operate the Abu Dhabi Healthcare "Abu Dhabi Healthcare CERT Team" (CERT). Through this partnership, DoH seeks to strengthen the emirate's healthcare sector cybersecurity and tackle any incidents or breaches targeting the sector's information database.
Authorising the Abu Dhabi healthcare sector CERT team is a major milestone in mitigating cyber risk proactively while creating a solid infrastructure and an ecosystem for information sharing, as well as facilitating and ensuring business continuity.
Commenting on the development, Abdulla Bader Al Sayari, Chief Information Security Officer at DoH said: "The main goal of the Abu Dhabi Healthcare CERT from a cybersecurity perspective, is to protect information and ensure the critical infrastructure we have put in place continues to function. It monitors incidents at a sector level, identifies incidents that could affect critical infrastructures, warns key stakeholders about computer security threats, and helps to build organizational CERTs in the public and private sectors."
Al Sayari continued: "At a time when the world is witnessing an unprecedented revolution in the technology and communication sector, digital security has become a key element of consideration for systems in any sector, and healthcare is no exception. DoH is keen to invest the necessary effort to ensure the security of information and infrastructure for the sector."
To date, the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi stands as the second government healthcare sector regulator globally to have implemented CERT.
